The Referral and Assessment Team is the central team that handles all initial enquiries to Children and Family Services. The team operates a duty system based at the Children’s Service Centre, Atkinson Drive, Newport (telephone 525790).

The team take a variety of enquiries ranging from requests for information and services through to concerns about the welfare or safety of a child or young person. Enquiries may be from other agencies or members of the pubic regarding any child/young person between the ages of 0-18 years, including unborn children.

A duty clerk will take the initial details of all enquiries and then pass this information to the social worker on duty.

The team undertake duty visits, complete initial assessments and investigations in line with the assessment framework.
