Mr Ian Stephens

Welcome to My Website

Ian StephensThank you for visiting my website. I have recently created my latest newsletter.

My biography contains various information, such as why did I stand as an Independent candidate, etc.

I am attempting to put information which may assist you, such as roadworks in the ward, health links, community safety amongst other things. One thing that will not appear on this site is political jibes, as I am not political and do not see a place for it in local council. Please contact me if there is anything you wish me add in these pages, or you may wish to contribute an item. Please feel free to contact me via any of my contact details, as listed.

Use this link to view all the current roadworks in place in our area and across the Island

Biography:Throughout the last term of COuncil and during this time I have tried to maintain a contact with local residents by newsletters and by keeping a relatively high profile in the area.
Many know me as I was born and have lived on the Island all my life, however I have worked throughout the South (east and west)prior to taking early retirement from BT. I then started an independent communication consultancy which I stopped on being elected.
I was elected as an Independent Member at the elections in May 2005, however in the last term of Council I stood as a Lib-Dem. My main reason for my nomination as an Independent Councillor was to allow me to represent the views and concerns of local residents. I made this decison to allow me to represent residents unfettered by political decisions as the Lib-Dems moved towards two tier education on the Island. We have a Primary, Middle a.d High school in this ward of Ryde South West, and the decision to close Middle schools would have created quite a considerable increase in pupils attending both Haylands Primary and Ryde High School...with no plans to move the increased numbers to another site to spread the load (although I had suggested that a new High school site be researched, or a 6th Form College for Ryde). After much thought I decided that I could not support the newly mooted changes by concern over the increase in pupil numbers alone. If you are a local resident you will be aware that there is heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the district at school opening and closing times. There is also the existing parking burden brought about by inadequate parking on the High school site which would again have furthered the problems of additional staff and pupil parking.
I have always put the district and those residents of Ryde South West at the forefront of my decisions, and will continue to do so.

I have been criticised by others for representing residents views at IWC Planning in regard to contentious mat
