Petition for the Creation of a Parish Council Newport Area

  • The Isle of Wight Council has received a petition requesting that a Parish Council be established which, if created, would encompass the currently unparished areas of the existing Electoral Divisions of Carisbrooke East, Carisbrooke West, Fairlee, Mount Joy, Newport North, Newport South, Pan and Parkhurst . A map detailing the proposed boundaries of the Parish Council can be viewed via the Isle of Wight Council website, iwight.com, and at the following locations during normal office hours: Customer Services, County Hall, High Street, Newport, Isle Of Wight Planning Department Reception, Seaclose, Newport, Isle Of Wight

  • Views are invited on the establishment of the Parish Council for the area in question, including the proposed boundaries, along with comments on the number of Councillors who should serve on the Council, and, if the Parish is to be divided into Wards, the number of Wards that should be created, along with the areas they should cover.

  • The Isle of Wight Council is obliged to consult on the proposals, and the petition will be forwarded to the Secretary of State and The Electoral Commission as received, along with any further recommendations that the Isle Of Wight Council may choose to make, and with a summary of local opinion on the proposals, within a period of thirteen weeks from the date of receipt.

  • A Public Meeting to discuss the proposals will be held on Tuesday 19th September 2006, in the Newport Parish Centre, Town Lane, Newport, commencing at 7:00pm.

  • Any comments on these proposals should be forwarded to the Electoral Services Officer, Isle of Wight Council, County Hall, Newport, Isle Of Wight, PO30 1UD, by telephone to (01983) 823341, or by e-mail to electoral.services@iow.gov.uk by Monday 2nd October 2006 for inclusion in the report to the Isle of Wight Council. Any comments received after this date will be forwarded to the Secretary of State and The Electoral Commission.
