Welcome to the provider section of the Isle of Wight Supporting People web pages.

What is Expected From a Service Provider?

The Island's Supporting People team are tasked with making sure that the standards services are giving to the people they help are as high as possible. This involves an ongoing process of Quality Assessment and Contract Monitoring. Each service has to also provide the Supporting People team with information on a regular basis. The information they give helps to show how well they are performing.

Each of the services needs to have the following in place:

  • Defined Policy and Procedures. There need to be written policies and procedures in place, and applied across the service, that explain how the service should do things in areas such as Assessment and Support, Health and Safety, Adult Abuse, etc.
  • Trained Staff. A process should be in place for staff development and training. It should include an ongoing review of training needs and appropriate courses with a view to staff being trained to as high a standard as possible.
  • Risk Assessment. Measures need to be in place that help to limit the opportunity for an accident to happen which involves either the service's clients or staff.
  • Adult Protection. Measures need to be in place that helps to limit the opportunity for clients or staff to be subjected to any form of abuse. This should include on-going training for staff.
  • Equal Opportunities/Non Discriminatory Practices. The service needs to be able to show that it is fair and consistent in how it treats both its clients and staff.
  • Complaints/appeals. Each service provider should have a process in place to deal with any complaints or appeals its clients might need to make.

The way, in which the service and its staff work with their clients should be open and fair, holding no secrets from the client and empowering them to make choices freely. Where information is needed, the client should be able to have confidence that the service will respect their right to confidentiality.
